ABO Energy has been awarded a tariff for its first solar park in Poland through a tender conducted by the country’s Energy Regulatory Office, marking a key milestone in the company’s expansion into the Polish renewables market.
The 17MWp Gubin solar project, located in the Lubuskie region on a former military site, is currently under construction and is expected to supply electricity to more than 6,000 homes.
“This success follows the granting of grid connection approval and is an important step for ABO Energy in Poland,” said Aleksandra Koska, managing director of ABO Energy Polska.
The company, active in Poland since 2019, has an 18-member local team working on a pipeline of solar, wind, and battery storage projects totaling over 1 gigawatt (GW) in capacity. It recently secured grid connections for three additional solar parks and has submitted permit applications for three standalone battery energy storage systems, including a 257MW facility.
ABO Energy’s general manager, Dr Klaus Pötter, noted broader shifts in the Polish energy landscape. “Poland’s electricity mix is changing rapidly, with renewables overtaking coal for the first time in June,” he said.
He also acknowledged policy-related challenges for the wind sector, including the restrictive “10H rule” on turbine placement, but added that ongoing legislative efforts could improve conditions for new development.
Koska emphasized that completion of the Gubin project would enhance the company’s standing in Poland and contribute to national decarbonisation goals. “Realising the Gubin solar park will strengthen our position in the market and support Poland’s energy transition,” she said.
