German renewable energy company Encavis has acquired the 34-megawatt (MW) Sundern-Allendorf wind farm from developer PNE under a turnkey agreement, the companies said on Wednesday.
Located in North Rhine-Westphalia, the five-turbine project is currently under construction and is expected to be commissioned in the first half of 2026. Once operational, it is projected to generate enough electricity to supply approximately 22,800 households, according to PNE.
Construction began in August 2024 after the project received approval from the Hochsauerland district in June 2023.
“We are pleased to be able to hand this high-quality project over to Encavis as a turnkey solution,” said Roland Stanze, chief operating officer at PNE. “This project has benefited from our decades of expertise as a project developer… In the future, we also see potential in projects like this for supplementary storage solutions and the use of power-to-X technologies.”
Encavis said the acquisition aligns with its strategy to expand its wind energy portfolio in Germany. “With the acquisition of the ‘Sundern-Allendorf’ wind farm, we are continuing our established growth strategy and systematically strengthening our wind energy portfolio,” said Mario Schirru, chief executive of Encavis.
“In the last ten months alone, we have been able to expand it within Germany by around 160MW… The project’s high quality and PNE’s long-standing development experience underscore the value of our collaboration.”
Encavis now holds wind assets accounting for around 45% of its installed and under-construction generation capacity in Germany. Both companies said they intend to continue their partnership to support the country’s renewable energy expansion goals.
