German renewable energy company PNE AG and a project development partner affiliated with regional Volksbanken have obtained official approval for an 86.4 megawatt (MW) wind energy project in Löningen, Lower Saxony.
The permit, granted under Germany’s Federal Immission Control Act (BImSchG), covers the construction of 12 wind turbines, PNE said in a statement.
Once operational, the wind farm is expected to generate enough electricity to supply around 52,000 three-person households annually, contributing to Germany’s broader energy transition goals.
The project will follow a broad-based ownership model, combining institutional investment with local participation. In addition to PNE and landowners, residents of Löningen will have the opportunity to take part in the project financially through a dedicated community wind farm scheme.
“This model enables direct financial participation from local citizens,” PNE said, noting that the structure is intended to strengthen regional support for the energy transition.
