Clean energy firm Gentari has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Amazon Web Services (AWS) for an 80-megawatt (MW) wind energy project in Tamil Nadu, southern India, the companies said on Monday.
The project is expected to begin operations in mid-2027 and will generate approximately 300,000 megawatt-hours (MWh) of renewable electricity annually. The output will contribute to AWS’s global target of reaching net-zero carbon emissions by 2040.
“Gentari is excited to support AWS in their net zero journey, and we welcome more partners to join us in building a more robust clean energy ecosystem,” said Sushil Purohit, chief executive of Gentari, a subsidiary of Malaysian energy group PETRONAS.
The agreement builds on a broader collaboration signed between the two companies in 2023 and is part of Gentari’s wider strategy to expand renewable energy infrastructure across Asia.
“We’re proud to work with forward-thinking organisations like Gentari who share our commitment to both technological advancement and environmental stewardship,” said Jeff Johnson, managing director for ASEAN at AWS.
Gentari said the project represents progress in its aim to scale up commercially viable clean energy solutions in key regional markets.
