Koehler Renewable Energy and CMB Energy have established a joint venture, KB Renewables, with the goal of developing and operating wind power projects totalling 1 gigawatt (GW) of installed capacity by 2030.
The new company, which was formally launched in April, is majority-owned by Koehler with an 80% stake, while CMB holds the remaining 20%. KB Renewables may expand its focus to include solar power and battery storage in the future, the partners said.
The joint venture will pursue a strategy of both developing its own projects and acquiring existing or planned wind farms, with a long-term commitment to ownership and operations.
Dr Claus M Brodersen, founder of CMB Energy and now managing director of KB Renewables, described Koehler as “a financially solid partner… with a penchant for strategic planning.”
Nicolas Christoph, Koehler’s corporate director for wind, solar, hydro and business development, has also been appointed managing director. The company said the joint venture would contribute to the Koehler Group’s energy needs through power purchase agreements and direct supply arrangements.
“Our aim is to deliver solid and sustainable wind power projects that are compelling not only in terms of profitability, but also in terms of their contribution to the energy security and decarbonisation of our own sites within the Koehler Group,” Christoph said.
KB Renewables is part of Koehler’s broader strategy to support its industrial operations with clean, self-generated energy while contributing to national and European climate targets.
