The first turbine has been installed at the Vifor wind farm in eastern Romania, a key step in the construction of one of the country’s largest renewable energy projects in a decade.
The 6.4MW Vestas EnVentus V162 turbine, with a tower height of 166 metres and a rotor diameter of 162 metres, is the highest-capacity turbine currently installed in Romania, according to developer Rezolv Energy.
“This is a significant milestone for Vifor and for Romania’s transition to clean energy,” the company said. “Once operational, the wind farm will be capable of powering more than 700,000 homes.”
The Vifor project, located in Buzău County, will be built in two phases. The first phase includes the installation of 30 turbines with a combined capacity of 192MW. An additional 42 turbines will be added in the second phase, bringing the total to 461MW.
Last week, Rezolv Energy announced it had secured financing of up to €331 million to support the construction of the second phase. Once completed, Vifor will be the largest wind farm built in Romania in the past 10 years and among the largest onshore wind projects in Europe.
Rezolv Energy is developing several large-scale renewable projects across Central and Southeastern Europe as part of efforts to accelerate regional decarbonisation.
