The Port of Great Yarmouth in eastern England is set to expand its Outer Harbour operations with the development of a new deep-water terminal, operator Peel Ports said on Friday.
The proposed Southern Terminal project includes an additional 350 metres of quay, a Roll-on/Roll-off (RoRo) ramp, a heavy lift pad, and around 10 hectares of reinforced open storage. The expansion comes amid increasing demand from infrastructure developers, particularly those involved in large-scale onshore and offshore projects.
Located on the UK’s east coast, Great Yarmouth is home to one of the deepest non-tidally restricted ports in the region. It currently serves a broad range of construction customers, including offshore wind operations in the southern North Sea.
“The Port of Great Yarmouth has been supporting major offshore and inland energy projects for over six decades, and we are seeing that demand continue to grow, with real momentum now building behind some major projects,” said Richard Goffin, port director at Peel Ports.
“Our team’s expertise is second to none, and the port is ideally located to support the construction of vital infrastructure projects,” Goffin added. “This development will help us meet our objective of playing an increasingly central role in the future of UK infrastructure, and have a positive impact on our regional and national economies.
