Irish utility ESB has awarded French renewable energy company Voltalia contracts to build two solar farms in Ireland, with a combined capacity of nearly 93 megawatts (MW), the companies announced on Thursday.
Voltalia will deliver the Carriglong solar power plant (43.7 MW) and the Clashwilliam solar power plant (49.2 MW) under two turnkey engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contracts.
The projects mark the fourth collaboration between ESB and Voltalia since 2023. Previous partnerships include the 108 MW Timahoe North solar park in County Kildare, developed under an ESB-Bord na Móna joint venture, and the 75 MW Middleton House project in County Longford.
“We are pleased to continue our collaboration with ESB for these two projects,” said Voltalia chief executive Robert Klein. “These new services contracts further consolidate our expanding presence in Ireland.”
Voltalia has seen increased activity in the Irish market, with over 600 MW in construction contracts awarded since summer 2024, in addition to the 365 MW already commissioned since 2022.
Both Carriglong and Clashwilliam are expected to contribute to Ireland’s renewable energy targets and ESB’s broader strategy to decarbonise electricity generation. No specific timelines for construction or commissioning were disclosed.
