China-based Envision Energy has signed agreements to supply two 100 megawatt-hour (MWh) battery energy storage systems (BESS) to UK energy storage developer Field, the companies said on Monday.
The lithium iron phosphate containerised BESS units will be deployed at Field’s Holmston and Drum Farm sites in Scotland, each providing 50 megawatts (MW) of power and 100MWh of storage capacity to support grid stability and renewable energy integration.
Construction of the Holmston project in South Ayrshire began earlier this summer, while groundworks at Drum Farm, located near Keith, are expected to commence in early autumn. Both facilities are scheduled to be operational by the end of 2026.
“Scotland is a key market for Envision Energy, and our collaboration with Field demonstrates the trust in our technical expertise and proven solutions across battery energy storage,” said Henry Peng, senior vice president at Envision Energy.
He added, “These two projects demonstrate our deep commitment to supporting grid stability and accelerating the transition to renewables with safe, reliable, and scalable energy solutions.”
Each project will be supported by a 15-year long-term service agreement, Envision said.
Field CEO Amit Gudka said the projects mark a significant step in the company’s expansion and the UK’s broader clean energy efforts. “Battery storage in all its forms is a critical part of that journey, and we’re pleased to be working with Envision Energy to deliver advanced solutions that will strengthen the grid and support the growth of renewables,” Gudka said.
Battery storage projects are viewed as essential to enabling a more flexible and secure energy system, particularly as the UK increases its reliance on intermittent renewable sources such as wind and solar.
