Zelestra has begun full commercial operations at its 435 megawatt-direct current (MWdc) Gorbea solar project in Rajasthan, India. The project was officially inaugurated on July 19 in the presence of India’s Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi.
Located in Phalodi, the Gorbea project was delivered in under eight months and is supported by a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI). The solar facility is expected to produce approximately 755 gigawatt hours (GWh) of electricity annually, which Zelestra estimates is sufficient to power around 128,000 Indian households.
Speaking at the event, Joshi said the project aligns with the government’s renewable energy goals and contributes to ongoing initiatives to expand clean power generation in India. He noted Rajasthan’s solar energy potential and emphasized local employment opportunities tied to such developments.
Sajay K. V., Chief Executive Officer of Zelestra India, said the completion of Gorbea demonstrates the company’s ability to implement large-scale projects on schedule and within budget. “Thanks to SECI’s commitment to clean energy, Gorbea has already delivered many economic and social benefits,” he said.
Zelestra has a development pipeline of 5.4 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy capacity in India, with 1.7 GW under contract. Globally, the company was recently ranked among the top 10 suppliers of clean energy to corporate customers by BloombergNEF, including second place in the Europe, Middle East, and Asia region.
