Danish police have launched an investigation following an incident at the construction site of the onshore substation for the 1-gigawatt Thor offshore wind farm, currently under development in the Danish North Sea.
The substation, located in Lemvig, is being constructed by Siemens Energy as part of the wider project led by German energy company RWE. While the nature of the incident has not been officially confirmed, local media outlet TV Midtvest reported it is believed to involve vandalism and occurred on July 16.
“We can confirm that an incident took place at the construction site of Siemens Energy for the Thor onshore substation in Lemvig, Denmark,” an RWE spokesperson told reNEWS. “The Danish police have started an investigation, which we of course are fully supporting. Please understand that we are not speculating and are awaiting the outcome of this investigation.”
No further details have been released regarding the extent of the damage or potential delays to the project timeline. RWE declined to provide additional comment while the investigation is ongoing.
The Thor wind farm is one of Denmark’s largest renewable energy projects to date and is expected to generate enough electricity to power more than one million Danish households once operational.
