EDF Renewables Ireland has received planning permission to develop a 50-megawatt wind farm in County Clare, following a decision by An Coimisiún Pleanála, Ireland’s national planning authority.
The Lackareagh wind farm will be located east of Kilbane, across the townlands of Killeagy and Shannaknock. The project is scheduled to become operational by 2030.
The development will consist of up to seven wind turbines, as well as supporting infrastructure including access roads, a substation, battery storage units, a construction compound, underground cabling, and a permanent meteorological mast. A grid connection will also be established as part of the project.
EDF Renewables Ireland plans to set up a community benefit fund aimed at supporting local initiatives and activities.
“We’re delighted to share that An Coimisiún Pleanála has granted planning permission for our Lackareagh wind farm in Co Clare,” said a spokesperson for the company. “Once constructed and operational, Lackareagh will generate enough low-carbon clean energy to power 35,000 homes.”
The project forms part of Ireland’s broader efforts to increase renewable energy generation and reduce carbon emissions in line with national climate targets.
