Siemens Gamesa has signed conditional agreements with Skyborn Renewables to supply turbines and provide long-term service for the 976.5-megawatt Gennaker offshore wind farm in the German Baltic Sea, the companies said on Thursday.
The agreements include the delivery of 63 SG 14-236 offshore wind turbines and a long-term service contract. Both the turbine supply agreement (TSA) and the long-term programme service agreement (LTPSA) are based on a master supply deal signed in June 2024.
The contracts remain subject to certain conditions, including a final notice to proceed from Skyborn. Offshore installation is expected to begin in early 2028.
Located about 15 kilometres off the coast of the Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the Gennaker site lies within a designated priority zone for offshore wind development.
“We are thrilled to see the turbine supply agreement and the long-term service agreement with Siemens Gamesa coming to completion. It is another step towards Gennaker’s commissioning,” said Skyborn CEO Patrick Lammers. “Gennaker, as the largest offshore wind farm in the German Baltic Sea, will contribute to Germany’s climate goals by boosting renewable energy production in the electrical mix.”
Siemens Gamesa, part of Siemens Energy, has collaborated with Skyborn on several previous offshore wind projects in France, Taiwan, and Germany. With the addition of Gennaker, their joint portfolio will exceed 3 gigawatts of capacity.
“With Gennaker, our joint portfolio will surpass 3GW of clean energy capacity,” said Marc Becker, Siemens Gamesa’s senior vice president for offshore. “We stand ready to deliver our SG 14-236 workhorse turbine, already backed by a robust order book exceeding 16GW.”
Skyborn secured initial permitting for the Gennaker site in 2019 and holds exclusive development rights. Once operational, the wind farm is expected to supply electricity to approximately one million people. Commissioning is planned for 2028.
