Energy and marine consultancy ABL has been appointed to provide marine warranty survey services for the installation of the submarine cable element of the Marinus Link interconnector, a key infrastructure project connecting Tasmania and Victoria.
Under the agreement, ABL’s Australian operations will oversee a range of marine warranty services during Stage 1 of the development. This includes supporting marine transportation, trenching, cable lay and burial operations, as well as landfall and cable pull-in activities.
Marinus Link is a 345-kilometre interconnector, with approximately 255km running undersea through the Bass Strait. The project is identified by the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) as a strategic asset for enhancing the country’s energy transition. It is expected to support greater integration and storage of renewable energy sources and improve the energy exchange between Tasmania and mainland Australia.
“Marinus Link is a major development project in Australia’s energy strategy,” said Jason Hannath, ABL’s country manager in Australia. “It will facilitate the interconnection of enough power to support the equivalent of 1.5 million homes, including providing wider access to renewable energy as more of it comes online.”
ABL’s responsibilities will also include reviewing project documentation, verifying vessel suitability, conducting dynamic positioning (DP) assurance when applicable, and providing on-site supervision to verify warranted operations.
ABL, part of Oslo-listed ABL Group, has been active in Australia since 1988 and brings international expertise in supporting complex marine energy infrastructure projects.
