German renewable energy developer WPD has acquired a significant portion of Calycé’s wind energy business, expanding its presence in France’s onshore wind market with a portfolio of 17 projects and integration of Calycé’s specialist teams.
The transaction, brokered by Envinergy, supports both companies’ shared commitment to local engagement, sustainable development, and long-term regional involvement, particularly in the Grand Est region where both have established operations.
Calycé, founded by agricultural sector stakeholders in 2002, has developed wind farms in Champagne-Ardenne with a focus on community consultation and environmental stewardship. WPD entered the French market in 2007, building its first two wind farms in Meuse and currently managing more than 100 MW across five developed projects and two licensed sites in pre-construction.
WPD France president Grégoire Simon said, “By integrating Calycé’s wind energy business, whose values we share, we are continuing our development while remaining true to our DNA: to be an independent player, very locally rooted, committed to the territories and there to carry out quality projects.”
Calycé president Eric Boban said the company’s growth prompted the founding partners to seek a strategic partner aligned with their human-scale approach. “We have always wanted to make Calycé a company on a human scale, close to our teams,” he said. This is why we have chosen to join forces with a buyer who shares our vision, capable of continuing this momentum and respecting our history of nearly 20 years.
WPD, which recently opened agencies in Reims and Troyes and employs over 200 staff in France, said the deal reflects ongoing confidence in the French onshore wind sector. The group operates in 33 countries, with 6,970 MW installed globally and a development pipeline nearing 39 GW across wind and solar.
