Norwegian lighting specialist Glamox has secured a contract to supply marine-certified lighting systems for Ørsted’s Hornsea 3 offshore wind farm in the North Sea, the company said on Tuesday.
Under the agreement, Glamox will deliver 1,379 LED luminaires designed for use in marine environments. The lighting will be installed on 197 turbine foundation platforms, covering external areas such as landing zones, guardrails, cranes, and access doors.
Hornsea 3, located about 120 kilometres off the Norfolk coast in eastern England, is scheduled to be fully operational by 2027. Once complete, the 2.9 gigawatt (GW) project is expected to generate enough electricity to power more than 3 million UK homes.
The installation will be carried out by Denmark-based Scanel Green Energy, while foundation construction is being undertaken by Aarsleff BIZ in Poland. Each turbine will be mounted on a fixed XXL monopile without the use of transition pieces.
“We are excited to light the way for Hornsea 3, which will play an important role in the energy security of the UK,” said Tommy Stranden, chief sales and commercial officer at Glamox. “We cut our teeth on lighting offshore energy platforms beginning in the 1970s and are now leading in lighting the transition to offshore wind.”
Glamox noted that it provides lighting systems for wind turbines, substations, and offshore vessels in various global markets.
Scanel Green Energy’s head of projects, Sebastian Moroder Ottesen, added: “We value the strong and ongoing collaboration we’ve built over several projects with Glamox. With the Hornsea 3 project now underway, we look forward to continuing this professional collaboration.”
Hornsea 3 is being developed by Danish energy company Ørsted and will be one of the largest offshore wind farms in the world once operational.
