Giles Dickson will step down as Chief Executive of WindEurope in the second half of 2025 after a decade in the role, the wind energy association said on Tuesday. He plans to pursue a new career in education in the United Kingdom.
WindEurope’s Board of Directors has launched the process of identifying Dickson’s successor and formed a nomination committee composed of select board members, including its chair and vice chair.
Dickson, who has led the Brussels-based trade body since 2015, has played a significant role in shaping Europe’s renewable energy agenda, particularly in expanding wind energy deployment across the continent.
“I’m incredibly proud of the progress wind energy has made in Europe in the past 10 years,” Dickson said in a statement. “I thank everyone at WindEurope for their engagement and support and the many people who have helped take wind energy forward during my tenure.”
He added that after spending much of his professional life abroad, he is looking forward to returning to the UK and contributing to the community through teaching.
Henrik Andersen, Chair of WindEurope’s Board, acknowledged Dickson’s impact on the sector. “It is a testament to Giles’ passion for and dedication to the energy transition that he will now help ensure a smooth succession and leave a stronger WindEurope than when he arrived,” Andersen said.
WindEurope represents the interests of the wind energy industry in Europe and plays a central role in policy advocacy and market development for both onshore and offshore wind. Dickson will continue in his role until a new CEO is appointed.
