Italian energy services firm Saipem has been awarded a €155 million contract by Enilive, Eni’s subsidiary focused on biorefining and sustainable mobility, for engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) work to expand the Porto Marghera biorefinery near Venice.
The contract marks a new phase in the long-standing partnership between Saipem and Enilive, following a previous award in March for initial detailed engineering, procurement services, and acquisition of critical equipment for the same project.
The Porto Marghera expansion will increase the biorefinery’s production capacity from 400,000 to 600,000 tons per year. As part of the upgrade, the facility is expected to begin producing sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) from 2027, in line with Europe’s decarbonization goals and the growing demand for low-carbon fuels.
The project is part of a broader collaboration agreement between Saipem and Enilive, reinforcing their strategic alignment in advancing cleaner energy solutions and supporting Italy’s bioenergy sector.
