German wind turbine manufacturer Nordex Group said it has secured a contract to supply 21 turbines with a total capacity of 147 megawatts (MW) for what will become the largest wind power project in Latvia.
The Pienava wind farm, located in the Tukums municipality southwest of the capital Riga, is being developed by Swedish renewable energy company Eolus and has been sold to Latvenergo, Latvia’s state-owned utility.
Nordex will provide its N163/6.X model turbines from the Delta4000 series. The company will also handle installation and maintenance under a 15-year service agreement, it said on Monday.
Turbine installation is scheduled to begin in summer 2026, with commissioning expected in March 2027. The turbines will be mounted on 169-metre tubular steel towers and delivered in a version adapted for cold climates.
“With this project, we are continuing our success story in Latvia,” said Patxi Landa, Chief Sales Officer of the Nordex Group. “In just a short time, we have increased our order volume in the country to 300 MW.”
Nordex first entered the Latvian market in 2024 with a 109MW order. The Pienava project marks a significant step in the country’s energy transition and is part of broader efforts to strengthen domestic renewable energy capacity.
