Acciona Energía has reached an agreement to sell its San Juan de Marcona wind farm in Peru to local energy company Luz del Sur for up to $253 million, the Spanish renewables firm said on Tuesday.
The 135.7-megawatt (MW) wind project, located in the Ica region, began commercial operations in late 2023 and is among the largest renewable energy assets in Peru.
The transaction is structured on a debt-free basis and remains subject to regulatory approvals, including clearance from Peru’s National Institute for the Defense of Competition and Protection of Intellectual Property (INDECOPI). Closing is expected before the end of 2025.
Acciona Energía said the sale forms part of its broader asset rotation strategy. “This transaction supports our goal of unlocking value from operational assets while maintaining a solid credit profile,” the company said in a statement.
The company added that the deal aligns with its long-term strategy to expand its global renewable energy portfolio.
Luz del Sur, one of Peru’s largest electricity distribution firms, is expected to integrate the wind farm into its growing renewable energy operations as part of national efforts to diversify energy sources and reduce emissions.
