Ampyr Distributed Energy (ADE), a commercial and industrial renewables investor, is expanding operations into Germany as part of its strategy to scale on-site renewable energy deployment across Europe, the company said on Tuesday.
The move marks the company’s first international expansion outside the UK, where it has already contracted over 50 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy capacity across approximately 50 sites. ADE, a subsidiary of the AGP Group, uses a power purchase agreement (PPA) model that allows businesses to adopt renewable technologies such as rooftop solar and battery energy storage systems without upfront capital expenditure.
“With some of the highest energy costs in Europe, Germany is an obvious target market for us. It has huge potential for on-site PPAs, supported by ambitious renewable energy policies,” said John Behan, chief executive of ADE.
The company’s entry into the German market will be led by Nick Koidl, who has been appointed managing director for Germany. Koidl is the founder of solar development firm Iguana Energy and previously led renewable advisory business Alternative Investment Partners, which has structured more than 1 gigawatt of renewable energy transactions globally.
“I’m honoured to join ADE,” Koidl said. “In a rapidly evolving energy landscape, our financial strength, technological expertise and strong local partnerships clearly set us apart.
ADE launched in January 2024 and has since positioned itself as a significant player in the UK commercial and industrial renewables sector, serving clients across manufacturing, retail, and sports venues.
“Looking ahead to Germany, I’m confident in the quality of our team and the partners already on the ground,” Behan added. “I look forward to seeing the business accelerate internationally over the coming years.”
