Enlight Renewable Energy has secured $310 million in financing to convert its existing 329-megawatt (MW) Gecama wind farm in Spain into a hybrid renewable energy complex, the company said on Tuesday.
The investment will support the integration of a solar photovoltaic array and a 220 megawatt-hour (MWh) utility-scale battery storage system, bringing the facility’s total installed capacity to 554 MW.
Once completed, the Gecama Hybrid Project is expected to become the largest of its kind in Spain, aligning with the country’s national climate strategy and efforts to strengthen energy supply stability.
“With the financial close at Gecama, Enlight marks another significant milestone in its European activity, by expanding one of its core assets into Spain’s first hybrid complex of its kind,” said Gilad Yavetz, CEO of Enlight. “This move is groundbreaking on two levels – establishing the country’s largest renewable energy complex and demonstrating technological leadership through the integration of utility-scale battery storage.”
The solar and storage components are expected to reach commercial operation in the second half of 2026, pending final development milestones.
Enlight said the expanded facility will address growing demand for energy storage, particularly in light of the widespread blackouts that affected Spain in April 2025.
The company also projects that the hybrid configuration will add between $38 million and $40 million in annual revenue in the first full year of operation.
The Gecama project forms part of Enlight’s broader strategy to scale renewable energy assets across Europe, with a focus on combining generation and storage to enhance grid flexibility and reliability.
