Danish wind turbine manufacturer Vestas has received a 124-megawatt (MW) order from EDF Power Solutions North America for the Haute-Chaudière wind project in Québec, the company said on Tuesday.
The order includes 20 EnVentus V162-6.2 MW turbines, along with a 10-year Active Output Management 5000 (AOM 5000) service agreement. Turbine delivery is scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2026, with commissioning expected in the fourth quarter of the same year.
Laura Beane, President of Vestas North America, said the project demonstrates the value of combining technology with collaborative supply chain efforts. “The Haute-Chaudière project is a strong example of what’s possible when experienced partners come together to combine supply chain excellence with world-class technology,” Beane said.
She added: “With Hydro-Québec’s goal of adding 10 GW of wind power by 2035, the province has both the sustained volume and the ambition to lead, and it’s only through strong partnerships like this, that those goals become a reality.”
EDF and Vestas have partnered with Québec-based tower manufacturer Marmen for the project, which is expected to support 130 direct jobs in Trois-Rivières.
“Marmen is proud to work with two industry leaders to highlight the importance of a Canadian-based supply chain amid strong market signals,” said Patrick Pellerin, President of Marmen.
EDF Power Solutions North America CEO Tristan Grimbert noted the long-standing relationship between the two companies: “EDF Power Solutions and Vestas share a strong, long-standing partnership that spans over two decades and 2.9 GW of wind energy projects across North America.”
“The Haute-Chaudière wind project, one of three projects awarded by Hydro-Québec through its call for tenders, represents our renewed collaboration with Vestas,” he added.
Vestas has an installed base of more than 5 GW across all 10 Canadian provinces and currently services 428 MW of operating turbines. A separate 347 MW project was also announced by the company last year and is under construction.
