UK Energy Secretary Ed Miliband has appointed Adam Morrison, UK country manager at Ocean Winds, as the new industry co-chair of the Offshore Wind Industry Council (OWIC). The announcement was made Tuesday at RenewableUK’s Global Offshore Wind conference in London.
Morrison will succeed Richard Sandford, who steps down this month after completing a two-year term. With more than 20 years of experience in the renewable energy sector, Morrison has worked across wave, tidal, and large-scale wind developments.
“It’s an honour to take on this role at a time when our world-leading offshore wind industry is working hard to develop world-class projects at pace to meet the Government’s target of clean power by 2030,” Morrison said in a statement.
He also acknowledged the work of his predecessor: “I’d like to pay tribute to Richard for the excellent job he’s done during his tenure… I’m delighted to be appointed at a time when the industry and Government are working closely together to maximise exciting opportunities for economic growth.”
Energy Secretary Ed Miliband, who also serves as government co-chair of OWIC, welcomed the appointment. “I’d like to welcome Adam to his new role at such an exciting time for the offshore wind industry as we deliver our clean power 2030 mission,” Miliband said.
He also praised Sandford’s contribution, noting his role in “helping to develop the UK’s world-leading status in offshore wind – creating thousands of jobs and attracting private investment.”
Reflecting on his tenure, Sandford said: “It’s been a great privilege to help to lead OWIC during a crucial period in the offshore wind industry’s development. By working closely with the Government, we’ve secured vital new clean energy capacity for the UK.”
OWIC, a joint industry-government body, plays a key role in shaping the UK’s offshore wind policy and supporting the delivery of clean energy targets through collaboration between stakeholders.
