Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL) has selected international technology group Andritz to supply key electromechanical equipment for its 1,500 megawatt (MW) Tarali pumped storage hydro project in Maharashtra, India.
Under the agreement, Andritz will provide pump turbines, motor generators, and associated auxiliary equipment for the plant, located in the Satara district. The financial details of the contract were not disclosed.
India is rapidly expanding its pumped storage capacity to support grid stability amid growing renewable energy output from solar and wind sources. AGEL’s Tarali project is expected to play a significant role in this national expansion.
Andritz’s responsibilities include the design, manufacturing, installation, testing, and commissioning of the pumped storage units. The work will be carried out primarily at Andritz’s Indian manufacturing facilities, supported by its global operations.
This marks the second contract awarded by AGEL to Andritz, following a 2023 order for the 500 MW Chitravathi pumped storage plant.
The company said the repeat order highlights its strong foothold in India’s hydropower sector and its capability in delivering advanced pumped storage solutions.
Andritz is currently engaged in implementing four other pumped storage projects across India, underscoring the country’s growing focus on balancing variable renewable energy with flexible hydro storage.
In a statement, Andritz said, “The repeat order underlines our expertise and commitment to supporting India’s transition to a more sustainable and reliable energy system.
