An investigation is underway following a blade failure at the Jädraås wind farm in Gävleborg County, Sweden, operators confirmed this week.
The incident involved a single turbine blade at the 213-megawatt site, which consists of 66 wind turbines and is operated by RES on behalf of its owner, The Renewables Infrastructure Group (TRIG).
“A thorough investigation is underway,” a RES spokesperson told industry publication reNEWS. “The safety of our personnel and the public is always our highest priority and while there have been no injuries, we have cordoned off the area as a precaution and are collaborating with the relevant authorities.”
The wind farm, equipped with Vestas V112-3MW turbines, began operations in 2013 and was acquired by TRIG in 2019. The facility was originally developed by Swedish renewable energy company Arise.
RES has not disclosed the cause of the blade failure or how long the affected turbine will remain offline. Authorities and technical experts are expected to assess the site to determine the root cause of the incident.
Wind turbine blade failures, while rare, typically prompt inspections and temporary shutdowns as operators work to ensure equipment integrity and site safety.
