German renewable energy developer Energiekontor has sold a planned onshore wind farm project in south-west Scotland to global energy firm Uniper, the companies confirmed on Tuesday.
The wind project, which will consist of seven Nordex N163 turbines, is expected to have a total installed capacity of approximately 46 megawatts. Each turbine will feature a rotor diameter of 163 metres and a maximum tip height of 200 metres.
Once operational, the wind park is projected to generate around 158 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of electricity annually—enough to supply more than 66,000 average households with renewable power.
Energiekontor had previously secured a Contract for Difference (CfD) for the project in the UK government’s fifth allocation round in October 2023, managed by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero. The contract includes an inflation-linked feed-in tariff that will apply once the project is commissioned.
“We are particularly pleased to have successfully led this first joint project with Uniper to this important milestone,” said Peter Szabo, CEO of Energiekontor. “This project marks another valuable addition to United Kingdom’s growing renewable energy landscape. With the sale of the project, we can now enter the realisation phase with Uniper.
The transaction supports Uniper’s strategy to expand its renewable energy footprint and contribute to the UK’s decarbonisation targets. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
