RWE has signed two long-term agreements with Clarkson Port Services to support operations and maintenance at its 1.6-gigawatt (GW) Nordseecluster offshore wind project, the companies said on Monday.
As part of the deal, Clarkson Port Services’ Dutch division will construct a new 1,700 square metre warehouse and office facility at the port of Eemshaven, located in the Beatrixhaven area. RWE will lease the facility to support the operational needs of Nordseecluster, currently under construction in the North Sea off the German coast.
Construction of the warehouse is expected to begin this summer, with completion scheduled for spring 2026.
In addition, the companies signed a 10-year exclusive service agreement covering a range of port logistics for the wind project.
“This is a major milestone for our company and shows that our approach, expertise and know-how are seen as being of important added value,” said Wim Schouwenaar, managing director of Clarkson Port Services in the Netherlands.
The Nordseecluster project, jointly owned by RWE (51%) and Norges Bank Investment Management (49%), will be developed in two phases. The first phase, Nordseecluster A, aims to connect all turbines to the grid by early 2027. The second phase, Nordseecluster B, is expected to begin commercial operations in 2029.
“Clarkson Port Services will provide us with a state-of-the-art warehouse, which will meet the needs of our Nordseecluster operations and maintenance team,” said Derk Niklas Janssen, operations manager for the project at RWE. “For its efficient operation we need storage space and excellent port logistics – both will be delivered by Clarkson Port Services.”
The Nordseecluster is the largest offshore wind development currently under construction off the German coast. It is located approximately 50 kilometres north of the island of Juist.
