PNE Group has finished expanding its Gnutz West wind farm in northern Germany with the commissioning of four new turbines adding 22 megawatts (MW) of capacity, the company said on Friday.
Located in the Rendsburg-Eckernförde district of Schleswig-Holstein, the expansion brings the total installed capacity at the site to 30.8 MW. The newly installed units—two Vestas V162 and two V150 models, each rated at 5.6 MW—started feeding electricity into the grid in May.
The additional capacity is expected to generate enough clean energy to meet the annual electricity needs of approximately 16,700 three-person households.
Roland Stanze, chief operating officer of PNE AG, said the project demonstrated a collaborative approach with local stakeholders. “The Gnutz West wind farm is one of numerous cooperation projects that we are realising in Schleswig-Holstein together with landowners and citizens,” he said.
Stanze added that the project reflected a balance between community interests and the strategic goals of independent power producers like PNE. “It is an example of how local interests and the strategic orientation of an Independent Power Producer like PNE can be combined in a dialogue that goes far beyond the classic leasing of land,” he said.
