Nordex Group has received a 56-megawatt (MW) order from Umwelt Management AG (UMaAG) to repower the Drochtersen wind farm in Lower Saxony, Germany, the company said on Wednesday.
The project will involve the installation of eight N163/6.X turbines, each mounted on hybrid towers with hub heights of 164 metres. Installation is expected to begin in autumn 2026, with commissioning scheduled for the first quarter of 2027.
The agreement includes a 20-year premium service contract aimed at ensuring long-term performance and reliability of the turbines.
“With the repowering project in the district of Stade, we are taking the next step towards more efficient, more powerful wind farms,” said Uwe Leonhardt, CEO of UMaAG.
Karsten Brüggemann, vice president for Central Europe at Nordex, said the initiative highlights the advantages of repowering. “This project demonstrates the energy and space efficiency gains possible through repowering,” he noted.
Repowering—replacing older wind turbines with newer, higher-capacity models—is an increasingly common strategy in mature wind markets such as Germany, where land availability is limited and older assets are reaching the end of their operational lives.
