European Energy has connected its 20.9MW Marksbury solar farm to the UK electricity grid, the company announced this week. The project, located in Somerset near Bath, is expected to generate 22.3GWh of renewable electricity annually.
The installation includes designated zones for tree planting to enhance local biodiversity and support wildlife habitats, the company said.
“The successful grid connection of the Marksbury solar farm represents a major step forward in supporting the UK’s transition to clean energy,” said Mark Evans, vice president and head of UK and Ireland at European Energy. “This project highlights the power of collaboration in bringing more renewable electricity to the grid, contributing to long-term sustainability goals.”
The facility was acquired earlier this year by AlphaReal, a UK-based investment manager specializing in real assets. European Energy remains involved as the asset manager for the site.
Electricity generated at Marksbury will be delivered to Asahi UK under a 10-year power purchase agreement.
Thorvald Spanggaard, executive vice president and head of project development at European Energy, said the company sees continued opportunity in the UK market. “There is a strong demand for affordable renewable energy in the United Kingdom, so this is one of the markets we are strongly invested in,” he said. “With our diverse international portfolio of renewable assets, we can deliver value to key stakeholders around the globe regarding affordable renewable electricity.
