Greek energy company PPC Group is set to expand its renewable energy portfolio in Bulgaria with the addition of an 88-megawatt solar park, currently under construction in the village of Vedrare, in the central Karlovo region.
The project is being developed by Chint Green Energy, a subsidiary of China’s Chint Group, which owns solar panel manufacturer Astronergy. Completion is scheduled for the first quarter of 2026, with PPC to integrate the facility into its portfolio once it becomes operational.
The solar farm is expected to generate 140 gigawatt-hours of electricity annually, supplying the energy needs of approximately 23,500 households and helping to avoid around 70,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions each year.
“The PPC Group proceeds steadily in the expansion of its portfolio in south-eastern Europe, as outlined in its three-year strategic plan for 2025 to 2027,” said Konstantinos Mavros, deputy chief executive for renewables at PPC Group. “We strengthen our presence in Bulgaria with another important project contributing to the vision of the Group for a sustainable transition to green energy not only in Greece, but also throughout south-eastern Europe.”
The facility will incorporate 18,500 bifacial photovoltaic panels from Astronergy, supported by 264 string inverters and 12 low- and medium-voltage power substations. The panels will be mounted on single-axis trackers featuring back-tracking algorithms designed to optimise energy production.
The new project follows PPC’s recent launch of a 165MWp solar park under construction in the Stara Zagora region of Bulgaria, alongside a nearby 25MW / 55MWh energy storage system. The group also operates an 18MW wind farm in northern Bulgaria as part of its broader push into regional renewables markets.
