Mingyang Smart Energy Group has successfully secured a substantial turbine order totaling 306MW for two prominent wind farm projects in the Philippines. The order, awarded by Vena Energy, a prominent Singaporean renewables developer, encompasses the ambitious 212.5MW Talim and the 93.75MW Sembrano wind farms situated in the province of Rizal.
Under this agreement, Mingyang will provide a comprehensive range of services, including the supply, transportation, installation, and commissioning of 49 MySE 6.25-172 wind turbines. Moreover, a long-term operation and maintenance (O&M) service agreement has been included to ensure the optimal functioning of both projects. The commissioning of these wind farms is anticipated to take place in late 2024.
The Philippines has faced significant challenges in terms of power shortages and escalating electricity costs, mainly resulting from its heavy reliance on imported fossil fuels and surging energy demand. In response to these issues, the Philippine government has actively intensified its support for renewable energy initiatives, with a target of achieving a 50% share of renewable energy in its power structure by 2040. As part of this goal, wind power is expected to contribute approximately 11.8GW.
Recognizing the importance of sustainable energy development, Philippines President Ferdinand Marcos Jr engaged in fruitful discussions during his state visit to Beijing in January. He held meetings with a delegation of Chinese company representatives and specifically had constructive talks with Zhang Chuanwei, the Chairman and CEO of Mingyang. This interaction reflects the shared commitment of both nations to promote clean and efficient sources of power for a greener future.
