KGAL Investment Management has finalized the acquisition of two new wind farms in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate, further expanding its renewable energy portfolio under an individual investment mandate for the Software AG Foundation (SAGST).
The wind farms, with a combined capacity of 23.8 megawatts (MW), are being developed by BayWa r.e. and are slated to begin operations in 2025. One project, located near the village of Prüm in the Eifel region, includes two Nordex turbines totaling 11.4 MW and is scheduled for grid connection in June 2025. The second, in Altenglan in the Western Palatinate, consists of two Vestas turbines providing 12.4 MW, with commissioning planned for September 2025.
Together, the wind farms are expected to generate approximately 80,700 megawatt-hours (MWh) of electricity per year. Both projects are supported by 20-year feed-in tariffs under Germany’s Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG), offering predictable long-term returns.
“With the purchase of the three wind farms, a solid foundation has been established for the SAGST portfolio,” said Konrad Lindner, portfolio manager at KGAL. “Further diversification is in the pipeline, with the imminent acquisition of a solar park.”
The acquisition reflects SAGST’s continued focus on aligning its investments with environmental sustainability goals. “Our goal is to consistently align our investments with sustainability and to expand our direct investments in renewable energies,” said Markus Ziener, Managing Director of SAGST. “With KGAL, we have an expert and reliable partner in this field who understands our investment philosophy and implements it swiftly.”
