Offshore wind operator Global Tech I has awarded two long-term service contracts for its 400-megawatt (MW) wind farm in the German North Sea, following a Europe-wide tender process launched earlier this year.
Wind Multiplikator has secured the contract for servicing and maintaining the site’s 80 Areva M5000 wind turbines, marking the first time an independent service provider will oversee turbine maintenance at the facility. Previously, this work had been carried out by Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy.
In addition, Buss Energy Group was selected to handle rotor blade repair and restoration services. Both contracts are scheduled to begin on January 1, 2026, and will run for ten years, aligning with the wind farm’s second decade of operation.
“With this decision, we are setting the course for the safe and reliable operation of our turbines for the coming decade,” said David Baureis, commercial managing director at Global Tech I. “Both partners prevailed in an intensive and structured tender process against strong competition.”
The offshore wind farm, located about 140 kilometres north of Emden, has been in operation since 2015. It generates enough electricity to supply approximately 445,000 households.
Technical managing director Felix Prechtel said the selection of partners underscores a focus on operational reliability. “With Wind Multiplikator and Buss Energy Group, we have found two experienced and dependable partners who fully meet our requirements for quality, innovation, and safety standards,” he said.
Global Tech I stated that the tender process, which began in February 2024, included a pre-qualification phase and multiple bidding rounds. Final selections were made based on Best and Final Offers (BAFO), with evaluation criteria encompassing technical capability, economic efficiency, and qualitative benchmarks.
Wind Multiplikator already services a significant fleet of Areva turbines and brings prior experience with the technology to the role.
