The British government has granted development consent for a 400-megawatt solar photovoltaic (PV) project in East Yorkshire, the Planning Inspectorate said on Friday.
The East Yorkshire Solar Farm, proposed by East Yorkshire Solar Farm Limited, is projected to generate enough electricity to supply approximately 100,000 homes, according to information published on the developer’s website.
The project includes a connection to the national electricity transmission system via the National Grid’s Drax substation. The developer estimates that construction of the grid connection cables will take about one year, while work on the solar PV facility is expected to span approximately two years.
The approval comes as the UK continues efforts to expand its renewable energy portfolio in line with national climate and energy security goals.
