Tata Power and Brookfield Renewables add 380 MW to India’s solar energy portfolio with new agreements

Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd. (TPREL) continues to expand its renewable energy portfolio with the upcoming 280 MW project in Bikaner, Rajasthan. , a subsidiary of TPREL, has signed a 25-year (PPA) with Tata Power Trading Co. (TPTC) to supply 485 million units of energy annually.

The plant is scheduled to be operational by March 2024 and will be connected to the central transmission utility (CTU) bus. The project will contribute to India's solar energy goals while supporting the country's economy and promoting sustainable development.

TPREL's renewable energy capacity has now reached 6,788 MW, with an installed capacity of 3,917 MW (2,989 MW solar and 928 MW wind) and 2,871 MW under various stages of implementation. With the increasing demand for clean energy, TPREL continues to contribute to India's energy transition.

, on the other hand, has signed a memorandum of understanding with Brookfield Renewable, a global leader in renewable energy, to purchase 100 MW of solar power on a long-term basis. Brookfield Renewables is developing a 400 MW solar power project in Bikaner solar park, Rajasthan.

The agreement between PTC India and Brookfield Renewables includes an option to increase the power supply to 200 MW at the time of project commissioning if mutually agreed upon by both parties. The power will be sold to various utilities and commercial and industrial consumers, further driving the growth of India's renewable energy market.

Brookfield Renewables has a significant presence in India, with an operating capacity of 1,003 MW across five facilities and 17 solar facilities spread across seven Indian states. The company recently commissioned a 445 MW solar power project in Rajasthan with a long-term offtake agreement with one of India's largest power utility companies. Its near-term development pipeline in the country is currently 1,300 MW.

The partnership between PTC India and Brookfield Renewables is a significant step towards achieving India's renewable energy targets while meeting the growing demand for clean energy. As the country continues to prioritize sustainable development and clean energy, such collaborations between global leaders and local companies will play a crucial role in promoting a green and sustainable future.
