Dutch heavy lifting equipment specialist Huisman has secured a contract to supply two knuckle boom cranes for offshore support vessels operated by Norway’s Sea1 Offshore, the company said on Monday.
The agreement, signed with COSCO Shipping, follows an earlier order for two identical cranes placed at the end of 2024. All four cranes will be installed on Sea1 Offshore’s new ST-245 offshore energy support vessels, designed by Norwegian firm Skipsteknisk.
The cranes will be equipped with Huisman’s proprietary Active Heave Compensation system, which integrates the crane’s electric operation with the vessel’s DC grid. The system is designed to reduce net energy consumption during lifting operations by optimising interaction with the vessel’s onboard energy storage system.
“We are proud to work alongside Sea1 Offshore, COSCO Shipping and Skipsteknisk, combining our expertise to deliver reliable, energy-efficient lifting solutions,” said Cees van Veluw, product director for cranes at Huisman. “The trust placed in us for a repeat order confirms the strength of these partnerships and our shared commitment to innovation in the offshore energy sector.”
Huisman has a track record of supplying advanced lifting solutions for the offshore energy industry, with a focus on reducing emissions and improving operational efficiency.
