The German Federal Network Agency has completed the planning approval procedure for a new section of the SuedLink power line. The approved section stretches approximately 70 kilometers from the district border of Bad Kissingen and Schweinfurt in Bavaria to the state border of Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg near Altertheim.
This decision marks a significant milestone for the project, with the exact route of the underground cable power line now confirmed. The Federal Network Agency had previously authorized several early construction start applications from TransnetBW, the company responsible for the section, which have now been formally validated through the planning approval decision.
The section begins in Oerlenbach, situated at the border of the Schweinfurt and Bad Kissingen districts. From there, the route moves west and then southwest, passing through the municipalities of Arnstein and Thüngen in the Main-Spessart district. The cable will also cross the A7 motorway at Wasserlosen, and pass near Retzstadt, Thüngersheim, and the community of Leinach, before crossing the A3 motorway.
The line will then move southeast, bypassing Altertheim, before concluding at the state border between Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg.
This approval marks another important step in the development of SuedLink, a crucial infrastructure project intended to enhance Germany’s electricity grid and contribute to the country’s energy transition.
