Ocean Winds has announced the completion of its 882-megawatt (MW) Moray West offshore wind farm, with the installation of the final wind turbine marking a key milestone in the project’s development.
Located in the Moray Firth off the northern coast of Scotland, the wind farm comprises 60 Siemens Gamesa SG 14-222 DD turbines. Each turbine, equipped with a “Power Boost” feature, can generate up to 14.7MW, making them the largest offshore commercial turbines in Europe, according to Ocean Winds.
Once fully commissioned, the Moray West wind farm will solidify Ocean Winds’ position as the largest offshore wind operator in Scotland.
Scottish Secretary of State Ian Murray, who officially powered up the wind farm, stated: “Investments like this are living proof that Scotland and its workers are benefitting from the skilled jobs and economic growth that clean energy can bring.”
The project, a significant step in Scotland’s renewable energy sector, is set to contribute substantially to the country’s green energy transition.
