A joint venture between Greek renewable energy firm MORE and PPC Renewables has secured final grid connection offers for eight new photovoltaic (PV) projects in northern Greece, with a combined capacity of 882 megawatts (MW), the companies said.
The new capacity includes six solar parks totalling 742.4MW in Kozani, a 92MW project in Kilkis, and a 48MW facility in Serres. The grid connection approvals represent a key milestone in the licensing process for the large-scale solar developments.
“The connection offers mark a critical step in the licensing process for the large-scale solar developments,” the companies said in a joint statement.
The electricity generated will primarily serve industrial consumers in Greece through bilateral power purchase agreements (PPAs). Additionally, the projects will support the agricultural sector via the GAIA programme, which offers reduced electricity rates to farmers.
The planned Kozani sites are separate from PPC’s existing 2.1GW solar pipeline located on rehabilitated lignite sites in Western Macedonia.
MORE and PPC Renewables already operate 300MW of connected joint capacity and expect grid connection offers for an additional 311MW in the near term.
MORE stated it is pursuing a strategic investment plan that prioritises solar PV, wind, and energy storage, aiming to position itself among the leading renewable energy producers in Greece.
PPC Renewables said the partnership contributes to its broader objective of developing 11.8GW of renewable capacity by 2027 across Greece and Southeastern Europe. The company is pursuing this goal through a combination of organic growth and strategic collaborations.
The companies added that the joint initiative “highlights their commitment to accelerating Greece’s energy transition and supporting sustainable development through increased investment in clean energy.”
