GE Vernova has signed an agreement to provide Forestalia with eight turbines for a 49-megawatt (MW) wind farm in Spain. The deal, booked in the first quarter of 2025, is part of a larger 693MW framework agreement between the two companies, announced in December 2023, aimed at supporting the development of renewable energy projects in the Aragon region.
Under the agreement, GE Vernova will supply eight of its 6.1MW-158m turbines. This collaboration aligns with Spain’s ambitious energy goals, including a target of installing 62GW of wind capacity by 2030 as part of its plan to generate over 80% of its electricity from renewable sources by the end of the decade.
“We are pleased to continue executing on our framework agreement with Forestalia as they work to help meet Spain’s wind energy goals,” said Gilan Sabatier, GE Vernova’s Chief Commercial Officer for Onshore Wind, International Markets. “Our workhorse turbines are well suited to wind conditions in Spain and across Europe, as customers continue to look to wind power to meet energy demand, bolster energy security, and support renewable energy goals.”
GE Vernova is well-established in Spain, contributing 5.9GW to the country’s wind capacity, including 1.5GW in the Aragon region. The company also maintains a significant manufacturing presence in Spain, with facilities in Ponferrada and Castellon.
Forestalia, a company focused on wind energy, photovoltaics, biomass, and pellet production, has a growing portfolio, which is expected to exceed an installed capacity of 1.2GW in the coming years. Carlos Reyero, CEO of Forestalia, stated, “Forestalia has a growing portfolio in operation and construction, which will exceed an installed capacity of 1.2GW for direct management in the coming years.”
The company has also collaborated on projects with major industry players, including Repsol, Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), Lightsource BP, and Bruc Management, totaling over 4GW, with most projects already operational.
With a global installed base of approximately 57,000 turbines and more than 120GW of installed capacity worldwide, GE Vernova remains a significant player in the wind energy sector, continuing to support Europe’s renewable energy goals through strategic partnerships like this one.
