Westfalenwind has placed an order for 20 E-175 EP5 wind turbines from Enercon, as part of its renewable energy projects in the Siegen-Wittgenstein district of Germany. The turbines, each with a capacity of approximately 6 megawatts (MW), will be used in wind farms located in Bad Berleburg and Erndtebrück.
The order, which also includes two transformer stations, was made with Enercon, a wind turbine manufacturer based in Aurich, Germany. The projects are being developed in collaboration with the Wittgenstein-Berleburg Pension Chamber.
Each turbine, which stands at a height of approximately 240 meters including rotor blades, is capable of generating enough power to meet the annual electricity needs of 4,500 households. When operational, the 20 turbines are expected to provide clean electricity to around 90,000 households in the region.
“We are delighted that the contracts have been signed and are looking forward to the construction of the wind farms together with our partner Enercon with great anticipation,” said Florian Janzen, a representative from Westfalenwind.
Benjamin Seifert, Enercon’s regional head for central and northern Europe, also expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration. “Our entire team is truly happy that we have reached another milestone on our joint journey with our long-standing partner Westfalenwind, and we are very much looking forward to realizing these projects,” Seifert stated.
Construction of the wind farms is slated to begin in the spring of 2026, marking a significant step forward in the region’s renewable energy initiatives.
