GHD has been chosen to provide electrical front-end engineering design (FEED) for the initial phase of Ocean Winds' 2-gigawatt (GW) Caledonia Offshore Wind Farm, located off the coast of Scotland.
This new project further expands Ocean Winds' offshore wind presence in Scotland, following the Moray East and Moray West wind farms, and is expected to significantly increase energy production in the Moray Firth region.
GHD's scope of work includes evaluating two turbine designs and developing the FEED for crucial electrical components. These include inter-array cables, an offshore high-voltage alternating current (HVAC) substation, power-system configurations, export cables, landfall and transition bays, as well as onshore cabling and substation equipment.
The engineering consultancy's teams in Newcastle and Manchester will lead the FEED work, with a focus on improving efficiency, standardization, and integrating innovative solutions into the electrical infrastructure.
GHD, which has nine offices across the UK and a growing renewable energy portfolio, is well-positioned to support the expansion of Scotland's offshore wind sector and contribute to the region's clean energy goals.
