GE Vernova's factory in Pensacola, Florida, has surpassed a significant milestone by producing over half of the wind turbines required for the 2.4GW SunZia Wind project in New Mexico. The project, once operational, is set to become the largest onshore wind farm in the western hemisphere.
The Pensacola facility has delivered enough turbines to generate more than 1.2GW of the project's total capacity. The SunZia Wind project, which is a major part of the U.S.'s growing renewable energy infrastructure, is expected to contribute significantly to the country's clean energy output.
In addition to the SunZia project, the Pensacola factory is currently fulfilling an order for 109 turbines destined for two RWE clean energy projects in Texas. These turbines are scheduled to be delivered later this year.
Since 2024, the facility has also produced nearly 500 repower turbines, which collectively provide over 850MW of power across the United States.
The recent milestones were celebrated at a ribbon-cutting event for the factory's newly opened customer experience center. GE Vernova CEO Scott Strazik highlighted the strategic importance of the Pensacola factory in meeting the country's growing energy demands. “American workers at GE Vernova factories are powering the world as we see a historic investment in the energy sector,” Strazik remarked. “The roughly $70 million we've invested in Pensacola since 2023 is enabling us to help meet America's and the world's accelerating energy demand.”
Pensacola Mayor DC Reeves also recognized the economic impact of the factory's operations, stating, “GE Vernova's partnership at the Port of Pensacola and continued investment in the city are a testament to our skilled workforce and its strategic importance in the growing energy sector.”
The investments made in the Pensacola facility are part of GE Vernova's broader plan, announced in January, to invest nearly $600 million in U.S. factories and facilities over the next two years. This initiative aims to bolster the country's energy infrastructure, increase U.S. competitiveness, and support global clean energy exports.
GE Vernova's ongoing investments in American manufacturing are expected to create more than 1,500 new jobs and further advance the U.S. toward energy security and national energy goals.
