Goldwind's 450MW Bashan wind project in Tasmania has been included on the Australian Government's inaugural National Renewable Energy Priority List, a move that is expected to expedite regulatory assessments and provide greater clarity for the planning and development processes.
Medard Boutry, General Manager Development at Goldwind in Australia, emphasized that despite the recognition, the project will still undergo comprehensive environmental and regulatory reviews. “Our proposed wind farm will still undergo rigorous environmental and regulatory assessments to ensure that the Central Highlands environment and local community concerns are addressed during the planning and development phases,” Boutry said.
The project, located in the Central Highlands of Tasmania, is expected to create 300 jobs during construction and provide up to 25 ongoing local jobs over its 25-year operational lifespan. The region already hosts several other significant renewable energy projects, including Goldwind's previously developed Cattle Hill Wind Farm.
Boutry also highlighted the company's commitment to community engagement: “We look forward to collaborating with our local community and First Nations peoples to develop initiatives focused on training and skills, supply chain procurement, and community benefit funds.
