Two developers, OÜ Utilitas Wind and Sunly Wind OÜ, have applied to bid in the upcoming auction for the Saare 7 offshore wind area in Estonia, according to the Consumer Protection and Technical Regulation Authority (CPTRA). The auction, scheduled for June 2025, will allow developers to compete for the rights to develop wind power in the area.
The Saare 7 site spans approximately 158.9 km², with a starting price of €15,000 per square kilometre, amounting to a total starting price of €2,383,500. The auction winner will be the participant who places the highest bid and successfully makes the corresponding payment.
Once the auction concludes, proceedings for a licence and environmental impact assessment will begin within 90 days. This includes the preparation of an environmental impact assessment programme, studies, and a report, to be followed by a decision from the CPTRA on granting the necessary licence.
The CPTRA has already completed five offshore wind area auctions and initiated licence and environmental impact assessment proceedings for 11 offshore wind farms. Additionally, one environmental impact assessment report has been approved.
The CPTRA emphasized its commitment to ensuring that offshore wind farms are developed in an environmentally responsible manner, adhering to all relevant construction regulations.
