Portuguese engineering firm Etermar has signed its first significant contract in the offshore wind sector with Orsted and PGE for the 1,500 MW Baltica 2 Offshore Wind Farm in the Baltic Sea. The agreement includes the manufacturing and supply of secondary foundation structures for the wind farm.
Starting in March, Etermar will manufacture, store, and load out more than 100 external working platforms for the wind turbine foundations. The structures will be delivered with monopile doors, and two platforms will also include radar platforms.
The work will be carried out at Etermar's headquarters, located at the Port of Setúbal, Portugal's only privately owned port terminal. Etermar highlighted that this contract positions the region and the port as a key export hub for the offshore wind industry.
Luís Machado, Executive Director of Etermar Energia, remarked: “This contract is a momentous achievement for Etermar, and it fills us with pride. It shows that, after almost three years of rigorous auditing, homologation, and tender processes, we were able to gain the trust of Orsted, the largest and most experienced offshore wind energy developer in the world.”
He added: “We are equally thrilled to work with PGE, the main energy producer in Poland, which is leading the change in the region's energy industry. More than a seal of approval in one of the most rigorous industries on the planet, this partnership is an excellent opportunity for us to continue showcasing our commitment to delivering high-quality manufacturing and logistical solutions for this growing sector.”
All parties involved view the contract as the beginning of a long-term collaboration, with potential for future projects in the offshore wind sector across Europe. The Baltica 2 Offshore Wind Farm is slated to be fully operational by the end of 2027.
