Orsted is set to begin construction on the second phase of its 112MW Bahren West onshore wind project in Brandenburg, Germany. The first phase, Bahren West 1, is now operational, while work on the 61.6MW Bahren West 2 is scheduled to commence next month.

Bahren West 1 consists of nine Vestas V150 wind turbines, each with a capacity of 5.6MW. The second phase, Bahren West 2, will feature 11 Vestas V150 turbines, also with a 5.6MW output per turbine. Turbine deliveries for the second phase are planned to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026, with commissioning expected by the second quarter of 2027. The turbine order includes a 20-year service agreement with Vestas.

Stefan Bachmaier, Managing Director of Orsted Onshore Germany, expressed his satisfaction with the progress: “We're delighted to be able to announce the operation of Bahren West I and the imminent start of construction of Bahren West II at the same time. The two projects are significant milestones for Ørsted's onshore wind ambitions in Germany. With Bahren West, we're not only making a strong contribution to Germany's renewable energy targets, but also reaffirming our commitment to providing renewable, reliable, and sustainable energy.”

In addition to the Bahren West wind farms, Orsted is also preparing to commission its 16.8MW St. Wendel onshore later this year. The Bahren West wind farms are located in the municipality of Neise-Malxetal, Brandenburg, near the German-Polish border.

Globally, Orsted has an installed onshore wind power capacity of approximately 3.8GW.
