Deep Wind Offshore Korea has successfully obtained another Public Waters Occupancy and Use Permit (PWOP) for its 1,500 MW Abalone Offshore Wind project. This approval marks a significant step forward for the project, enabling further offshore investigations and accelerating its development, the company said.
The Abalone project is part of a broader 6 GW offshore wind initiative being developed by Deep Wind Offshore in partnership with BP in South Korea. The successful acquisition of the PWOP enhances the project’s commercial viability and its potential to contribute to the country’s growing renewable energy sector.
John Kang, country manager of Deep Wind Offshore Korea, expressed confidence in the project’s progress, stating, “This granted PWOP increases the scale and commercial attractiveness of the Abalone project and provides a strong foundation for the stable progress going forward.”
He added, “Through close collaboration with our partners and stakeholders, we remain committed to delivering a sustainable offshore wind future.”
The approval allows for the continued advancement of offshore wind energy in South Korea, supporting the country’s goal of expanding its renewable energy capacity.
